The Sandusky County Board of Developmental Disabilities Quality of Life Committee continues to focus to reduce and eliminate the use of coercion and restraints in behavior supports as well as daily programming by utilizing:
Social skills education,
Communication enhancement,
Anger management,
Counseling,
Organized behavioral systems,
Cognitive approaches,
Positive relationship building,
Environmental changes,
Other positive approaches.
Behavior Support Programs continue to promote progress towards goal accomplishment, increased confidence, self esteem, and team satisfaction for persons served. The Behavior Support Specialist participates in the Behavior Support Regional Meetings and the State's Positive Culture Initiative. The Behavior Support Specialist provides the Sandusky County Board staff the Principles of Behavior Support Course as needed.
Highlights for 2011
1 adult behavior support program was discontinued based on program goal accomplishment and changes in support need
Completed 14 NEW employee Behavior Support Trainings to include TAPS: Therapeutic Assault Prevention System
SCBDD continues to provide support from Bowling Green State University through the Graduate Clinical Externship
Provided 32 "Individual Specific" trainings to Residential, Adult Services, and Transportation Staff.
